Thursday 11th August - Cutting the Cord
Considering this was our last rehearsal before the Fringe run, there was a very layed back approach from all parties. A certain confidence was present today . I think the confidence lies from being very offay with the blocking and knowing there is only one area that needs improvement - this being lines . A good solid run,an some interesting ideas flowing led to what was an unaturally breeze of a rehearsal
Wednesday 10th August - Doors Close, They Never Lock
An extra rehearsal was well needed . An interesting dynamic on stage for this production . We have all taken more of a methodist approach to this particular project , giving the characters a different feel and the complexity of the tension on the stage completely turned around from our Leith Festival show . There were line issues, and at times dialogue portrayed in what may feel an incongruous manner to us but, hopefully look entirely natural to an audience but, we certainly have an interesting production on our hands now . I'm looking forward to next week . I've never used such an intense method, and as of yet am not entirely convinced it is the right approach but, I am a man who loves to take risks , and this particular risk will prosper from an audience
Thursday 4th August - Doors Close , They Never lock
How do I feel about todays rehearsal ?...It was intriguing . Finding a coherence between three aesthetically passionate characters is never going to be easy but, at least all our hearts are in the right place . People who have seen the show before are in for a major surprise . Whether this is a good thing or not remains to be seen...
Thursday 28th July - Cutting the cord
There were some line issues today but, all in all we achieved what set out to : A relatively uninterupted full run , implementing the changes . The show seems to have more fluidity after putting the slight changes in place . We have more space to play about with , and also not as much potential for intimacy . Therefore, we are adding something behind the table , and also a wicker chair . The wicker chair helps to divert the action from all being around the table , and in turn almost feels like a new scene when they are there . Just one more rehaearsal to go but , all in place so, a good run through and we will be on course and feeling ready to rock and roll
Thursday 21st July - Doors Close, They Never Lock
Todays rehearsal flew past in a transient manner . It had the feel of an AGM about it . We may not have physicaly achieved a huge amount but , emotionally and technically we covered a lot of ground. It's very inspiring to know people are soo passionate about a production that I constructed from scratch . It gives me a great feeling to know the script means a lot to them . It's also exciting , like cutting the cord , to be re-staging something afore produced . I would hate for continue in a perpetual manner but , to be able to fine tune those little things that maybe never worked , is a great relief , and also a great luxury for a show that has already had some great reviews . We will have to adapt to the new space of course , and ths will no doubt have a bearing on some of the movement . However , like always , we will adat and we will succeed because , when great minds converge , great things happen
Thursday 14th July - Cutting the Cord
Re-visiting a show is an entirely different proposition from putting on a production from scratch. Having blocking/props/set already in place allows for one to delve into the more intricate things involved in honing an already performed show. The most important thing is to rediscover the love for the script/character. Fortunately for all of us , this seemed to not only come naturally but , with a cathartic feeling leaving the rehearsal space at the end of the day with a sense of equalibrium. Practising altruism as appose to egoism is something I try to bring to every rehearsal process. I believe that narcisissm has a wall . A wall that should sometimes be broken for the greater good of the show. I allow this to happen , knowing that three aesthetically challenged minds can converge together better than one arrogant/stubborn mind . I also enjoy using big words when writing my journal because being egotistical about ones vocabulary is something that should occasionally be emitted to the committed readers
